US agrees with DG ISPR’s statement on ‘foreign conspiracy’
The United States administration has said it agrees with Pakistan’s armed forces spokesman, who in a press conference on Thursday said the word ‘conspiracy’ was not part of the National Security Committee statement.
The agreement came during a press briefing addressed by US Statement Department spokesperson Ned Price on Monday. Price also answered queries related to the new government in Pakistan and former premier Imran Khan’s claims about the alleged threat letter.
“Our message has been clear and consistent on this. There is no truth whatsoever to the allocations that have been put forward,” he said in response to a query pertaining to ex-PM Imran’s allegations.
The State Department spokesperson reiterated that the US administration supported the peaceful upholding of constitutional and democratic principles, including respect for human rights. “We do not support, whether it’s in Pakistan or anywhere else around the world, one political party over another. We support broader principles, including the rule of law and equal justice under the law,” Price said.
Moreover, Price said the US secretary of state issued a statement a day before regarding the selection of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
“For almost 75 years, the relationship between the US and Pakistan has been a vital one. We look forward to continuing that work with Pakistan’s government to promote peace and prosperity in Pakistan and the broader region,” he said, adding that in that spirit, the administration has congratulated PM Shehbaz on his election by parliament.
“We look forward to working with him [Shehbaz] and his government,” the US state department spokesperson said.
