President Alvi writes letter to PM Imran, Shehbaz for consultation on caretaker PM
President Dr Arif Alvi has written letters to Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif to initiate consultations for finalising the name of caretaker prime minister, reported Aaj News.
Under Article 224A (1) of the Constitution, both the leaders have to consult each other about the caretaker prime minister and agree on one name within three days. Otherwise, the issue is forwarded to the National Assembly speaker.
On Sunday, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri prorogued the NA session after rejecting the united opposition's no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan, terming it against Article 5 of the Constitution.
After the NA session was dismissed, President Dr Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly on the advice of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Later, the President House issued a notification saying PM Imran Khan will continue working as the prime minister till the appointment of a caretaker premier under Article 224A (4) of the Constitution.
