Men attack Mansehra assistant commissioner for being a 'woman'
Mansehra Assistant Commissioner Marvi Malik Sher was injured in an attack by three assailants over the weekend, it emerged on Sunday.
As per reports, the attackers overtook the AC’s car, while taking videos and pictures of her. They then stopped their vehicle in front of her car near Ghazi Kot in Mansehra before resorting to manhandling. They also expressed their displeasure at having a woman serving as the AC in their area.
They then tried to get Miss Sher out of the vehicle in a scuffle that left the assistant commissioner and her guard injured.
Timely intervention by those present at the scene ensured that the attackers were restrained and handed them over to the authorities.
A case under various sections including those pertaining to harassment was filed against the three men on the AC’s complaint.
Sher is a respected government official and shares a unique record with her four sisters who have also cleared the CSS examination and are part of the bureaucracy.
Sher’s sisters tweeted about the attack that resulted in a flood of support from netizens.
Social media users expressed solidarity with the female AC and condemned the attack on her.
“Respect working women & don’t consider us an easy target just because we are out in public space. That space belongs to us as much as it belongs to you (men),” said journalist Shiffa Z. Yousafzai.
One person raised an important question regarding women’s safety in and out of the house.
