Ahmad Nawaz, who survived the Army Public School 2014 massacre, took to Twitter to announce his election as the president of Oxford University’s debating society Oxford Union.

Oxford Union is among the most prestigious debating platforms in the world.

20-year-old Nawaz called his election “the most monumental and history-making moment” of his life.

Thanking everyone who supported him, he said he was especially thankful to his parents. He also mentioned his friends who were with him “throughout this journey". He also thanked his team who he said “have worked so exceptionally hard to make this truly historical moment happen!”

Nawaz was previously serving as the treasurer for Oxford Union. The young man had taken to Twitter on February 13, to express how holding the position felt “like a dream.”

Nawaz secured a place at University of Oxford in 2020, joining the list of many noteworthy Pakistanis, including late Benazir Bhutto, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Nobel Laureate Malala Yousufzai.

Incidentally, Benazir Bhutto was the foreign head of the prestigious Oxford Union.

Apart from studying at Oxford, Nawaz is a human rights campaigner.
