What’s so special about 'twosday' 2022?
Today February 22, 2022, marks a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence in the calendar, as the date numbers line up to be 22.2.22. The digits of the date can read the same backwards and forwards, such numbers or words are called a palindrome.
What’s even more unique about this date is that it came on a Tuesday, hence social media users have dubbed it a ‘twosday.’
Twitter users wished each other a happy ‘twosday.’
One user took it to the next level by adding some more alliteration.
Another user advised people to celebrate this day “wisely” as “there may not be another” ever again.
Some have leaned into the superstitious side of this number, with New York based astrologer and writer Aliza Kelly calling these repeating digits ‘angel numbers.’ “The reason we're enchanted by these sequences, however, is an extension of their symbolism: It is believed that these numbers are messages from the spiritual universe that offer insight, wisdom, and directionality,” she said in an article in Allure.
According to Kelly, the number two suggests balance, trust and alignment. “Experiencing two in a sequence (either within a set of three, four, or within a pattern) could mean that someone — either in the physical realm or spiritual domain — is helping you get where you need to go,” she said.
But not everyone believes this interpretation.
An article in Washington Post quotes Morten Heedegaard who believes that there’s no bigger meaning to these numbers.
“Literally, it’s useless, because what should make that day any different from any other date, apart from the fact that humans have invented a way of counting days, and years, and months? And by coincidence, that date is going to be a date full of twos, and we originate our timing from a day and a year at which a certain guy named Jesus was born,” he said.
Special or not, it’s an opportunity to celebrate and people all over the world are excited on the occasion.
According to Malaysian news outlet The Star, more than 100 couples have registered to get married on 22.2.22.
Many fashion brands are giving their customers 22% discount on twosday.
Some people have also taken to Twitter to honour players who sport the number 2 in sports such as basketball, baseball, and American football. While others posted positive messages on social media.
Even though a date palindrome featuring the number two will not occur again for the next 400 years, we will get to see 3.3.33 in 11 years on March 3, 2033.
