PTI leader confirms Shahbaz, Tareen 'secret meeting'

He suggests Tareen should make a decision after analyzing the current political situation

The opposition’s plan to bring a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan seem to be gaining steam with news reports about secret meetings of the opposition with lawmakers from the ruling party adding to the buzz.

The weekend witnessed a flurry of theories on social media about the alleged meeting between PML-N's Shahbaz Sharif and former PTI leader Jehangir Tareen and what the consequences of that meeting could lead to. But there was no official word until Monday when PTI provincial minister Fayazul Hassan Chohan confirmed the meeting between Sharif and Tareen.

Speaking on Geo News on Monday, Chohan said that Tareen had fulfilled his responsibilities as the party’s secretary general efficiently.

Chohan suggested Tareen should make a decision after analyzing the current political situation in the country.

The no-trust motion will not be tabled, he claimed, adding that at least 15 lawmakers of the PLM-N were already asking for tickets for themselves in Punjab.

He advised Tareen never to trust in Sharif family, including Shahbaz Sharif, as he would never get any benefit from Sharif family.

The weekend's reports on the Shahbaz-Tareen meeting claimed that both men were ready to move forward together, before and after the no-confidence motion.

Tareen had neither confirmed nor denied the meeting but had said that the members of his group gave him a mandate for political decisions while such contacts were part of politics.

Meanwhile PML-N leaders had claimed that the Tareen group had conditionally offered its support to the opposition party in return for the assurance of National and Punjab Assemblies’ tickets.

In related news, PPP co-chairman will meet PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman today (Monday) to discuss no-trust motion against the government.

According to the reports Fazl will also host a dinner for the former president.
