Islamabad couple harassment case: Co-accused accuses IO of harassing him
One of the men charged with harassing the Islamabad couple has accused the investigating officer of harassing him inside Bakhshi Khana.
Additional Sessions Judge Justice Ata Rabbani was hearing the case and summoned co-accused Mohib Bangash for questioning.
Bangash accused Investigating officers Shafqat Bala and Amir Hamza of harassing him and forcing him to accept the crime.
"I was asked about the video and the incident," he told the court.
He also said that after the last case hearing, when the accused were returning from court, the investigation officers told him that they wanted to talk to him.
"I was told to talk and they were recording my voice, a police officer was also shooting video," Bangash said in his statement.
"The police officers were continuously pressing me to confess the crime," he said adding that he kept insisting he be produced before the judge.
During the proceedings Investigation Officer Bala told the court that he went to the house to take a sample of the voice recording of the accused and had obtained written permission from magistrate in this regards.
Bangash's voice had to be sent for forensic examination so "I went to Bakhshi Khana to record his voice," said Bala.
Meanwhile the lawyer of another co-accused in the case, Rehan, cross-examined sub-inspector Tariq Zaman in the case.
Sub-inspector Zaman said he was present in Golra Police Station and was informed by Constable Hassan Mujtaba, who was not in uniform, about the case.
He said that the accused was under his investigation for 24 hours.
He also said the video of violence against boys and girls did not go viral from any of the accuseds mobile phones.
No one knows where the original video came from, Judge Ata Rabbani remarked.
"Rehan has been arrested. I don't remember when it happened or where it happened," Zaman told the court.
The court then adjourned the hearing of the case till February 1.
The case had surfaced when a video of four persons holding a couple at gunpoint, forcing them to strip and then beating them up had gone viral on social media last year in July.
Initially, an FIR was registered under section 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 354A (assault or use of criminal force against woman and stripping her of her clothes), 506 (ii) (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of Pakistan Penal Code. Later, sections pertaining to rape, sexual abuse, extortion, and wrongful confinement were also included in the FIR.
In September, charges were framed against the primary accused, Usman Mirza, and co-accused Hafiz Ataur Rehman, Adaras Qayyum Butt, Rehan, Umar Bilal Marwat, Mohib Bangash and Farhan Shaheen.
