Three men arrested for harassing couple in Kashmir
Azad Jammu and Kashmir police arrested three people on Monday, after a video of them harassing and assaulting a couple for cash went viral on social media.
AJK police shared the news of the arrest on its Facebook page.
In the video, at least two men can be seen dragging a man out of the drivers seat of a car, who is constantly assuring them of meeting their demands and asking them to behave.
The attackers pay no need to the protestations of the man and the woman, with one of the attackers forcibly getting inside the car and sexully assaulting the woman.
According to Dawn.com, AJK’s Inspector General of Police Dr. Sohail Habib Tajik sent the video to his officers in Muzaffarabad immediately after receiving it and asked them to take prompt action.
A first information report was registered against the unknown suspects under sections 354, 489Z, 489Y, 500, 501, 504 and 506 of Penal Code.
The police managed to arrest one suspect from the video, who later assisted the police in catching the other two from their residents, said city police station house officer Rashid Habib Masoodi.
Six mobile phones, including one that belonged to the couple was recovered from the suspects.
Social media users are outraged on this “shameful” incident, with calls for authorities to take action immediately.
“This is painful, the authorities must take action. Please no scapegoats and victim blaming. Straight away, take action or resign,” said Twitter user Imran.
