Deadly stowaway: Snake travels from Pakistan to England
One of the deadliest snakes in the world has survived being packed in a brick shipment and travelling 4000 miles from Pakistan to Manchester, Daily Mail reported.
A forklift driver spotted the tiny saw-scaled viper among bricks that were delivered to Manchester Brick Specialist last month from Pakistan. The team then proceeded to find out what kind of a snake it was and upon discovering just how deadly it could be, they secured the reptile under a cardboard box.
They then called an inspector from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), who was skeptical about the snake being deadly or it even being the saw-scaled viper as they are usually not found in England. According to Britannica, this viper inhabits arid regions and dry savannas north of the Equator across Africa, Arabia, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka.
However, when RSPCA inspector Ryan King arrived at the scene, he quickly realised the snake was capable of killing people with its highly toxic venom. He said he was amazed how the snake had survived not only the long travel but had also survived the cold climate in England for almost a month before it was discovered.
Theses snakes are venomous enough to kill people despite the administration of anti-venom in some cases. The saw-scale viper has since been shifted to a facility with a special license for handling venomous snakes.
