The Election Commission of Pakistan on Wednesday accepted apologies from Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain and Federal Minister for Railways Azam Khan Swati for their scathing remarks against the election body for its objection on the use of electronic voting machines during the next general election.

Swati along with his lawyer appeared before the electoral body which accepted his apology and directed him to be cautious.

During the case's hearing, ECP member Nisar Durrani asked Swati, "Why do you not appear before the commission?" He added, "You have more responsibility."

At this the federal minister said he always raised voice to make the commission independent.

"All the institutions are yours [the government's] and to say anything bad about them is not appropriate," said the commission's member.

On September 16, the commission issued notices to Swati and Fawad after the former accused the election commission of taking bribes from the companies to manufacture EVMs.

That same day, in a press conference alongside other ministers, Fawad alleged that ECP and chief election commissioner were becoming the headquarters of the opposition parties and acting as their mouthpiece.
