A former resident of the illegally-constructed Nasla Tower has died because of ‘sheer depression,’ Dawn reported.

The deceased was identified as Shamim Usman, 65, according to a statement issued by the Association of Builders and Developers (Abad) on Friday.

The elderly woman was among many residents who were asked to vacate the 15-storey building by Oct 27 or face coercive action by the authorities after the Supreme Court ordered the provincial administration to demolish the building.

As per Abad, the deceased woman was a retired employee of the Pakistan International Airlines.

Shamim was suffering from depression after she was forced to vacate her flat in the building located at the intersection of Shara-e-Faisal and Shahrah-i-Quaideen, it added.

“Shamim Usman resided in flat No 104 of the Nasla Tower. She was in sheer depression after she and all residents of the building were forced to leave their homes on the order of SC,” read the statement. It added that the woman had invested all her savings in the apartment.

The demolition of the building is currently under way “despite problems”, the city administration informed the apex court in a detailed report on December 6.
