Shahid Afridi to play for Quetta Gladiators in his last PSL event
All-rounder Shahid Afridi will play his last Pakistan Super League tournament with the Quetta Gladiators after representing Multan Sultans last year.
In a tweet on Friday, the Quetta Gladiators announced that the former skipper of Pakistan team had joined the team.
In addition to Afridi, English player James Vince has also been traded by Multan Sultans to Gladiators in exchange for a Diamond and Silver pick in the upcoming PSL draft. Moreover, Gladiators have also traded wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan to Islamabad United and have received Iftikhar Ahmed’s services instead.
Afridi, who had earlier expressed his desire to end his PSL tournament with the Gladiators, has also been part of Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings
“Assalam alaikum friends, I hope you all are good. The PSL 7 is going to be held and we all know that the PSL is a big brand of Pakistan because of which we have got to see so good and rich talent and you know that I have almost played from every team and this is my last season,” Afridi said in a video posted by Quetta Gladiators on Twitter.
“So it’s a very happy moment for me that I will be playing my last season from Quetta Gladiators and I hope you all will enjoy PSL and also support our team,” he added.
In August, Geo News reported, Quetta Gladiators’ owner Nadeem Omar had said that Afridi told him that he would join his franchise for the seventh season of the tournament.
Multan Sultans also paid tribute to its former player by sharing a video of his performances. “We thank you Shahid Afridi for your invaluable contributions, on and off the field. You will be missed! Wishing you the best for the future!,” the team said in a tweet.
Hailing his time with Sultans, Afridi said: "It was a lot of fun being part of Multan Sultans especially the strong team that knows how to bounce back from difficult as winners. Enjoyed my time and made a lot of good memories. Wish you all the best for PSL7, especially against Quetta Gladiators."
