While referring to a viral video of people purchasing votes ahead of NA-133 by-elections, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Sunday raised whether party slogans of "respect the vote" meant "buying votes for Rs2,000".

The federal minister was addressing a public meeting in Pind Dadankhan.

"A video has gone viral [on social media] showing those who used the slogan of Vote ko Izzat Do purchasing votes for Rs 2,000 each which is a shameful and detestable act," said Fawad.

In the video in question, a man was seen taking oath from people to vote for PML-N candidate in the by-election which were scheduled to be held on December 5. And then the man handed over cash to them.

Fawad said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz was worried about the use of electronic voting machines in the next general elections because they always came into power through electoral fraud and rigging.

"I was a contestant in by-election from NA-67 in 2016 in which the PML-N used undemocratic tactics and tried to buy votes by giving money to people," he said, hoping the Election Commission of Pakistan would take notice of the video and take appropriate action.

The federal minister also accused the opposition party of rigging in 1990 election.

"The PML-N won 1990 general election through massive rigging and the Supreme Court gave a verdict against them," he added.

He suggested PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar to start film making business as politics was not their cup of tea.

Giving reference to audio leak of former chief justice Saqib Nisar, Fawad said the PML-N’s aim was to pressurize national institutions including judiciary by releasing fake videos.

"Videos are leaked before the proceedings of corruption cases against PML-N leadership, which later proved to be fake videos, he added.
