Speaking to the media on Monday, former federal minister Faisal Vawda said that retired chief justice of Gilgit Baltistan Rana Shamim should be flogged and hanged in public for his allegations against former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar.

“Judges such as the former chief justice of Gilgit Baltistan are paving the way for chaos in society by pitting the institutions against one another,” he said, adding that this is why it’s important to punish such judges.

According to a story in the News on Monday, Shamim in an affadavit has accused Saqib Nisar of keeping former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz in jail without bail before and during the general elections of 2018.

Nisar has denied the allegations saying they’re “far from reality.” He also revealed that Shamim had asked him for an extension which was refused.

Vawda said that judges “tremble” while issuing verdicts to criminals, but they freely issue statements. “The nation has witnessed this in Peshawar where hardened criminals were released,” he said.

The former minister also raised doubts about the allegation demanding to know why Rana Shamim didn’t come forward three years ago at the time of the incident. He said that it’s “shameful” how he’s tainting other “honest judges.”

Vawda accused Shamim of benefitting financially from Nawaz Sharif. He said that the former PM had appointed Rana and his son was also given the position of advocate general.

“A person who was scared to give verdicts against criminals during Sharif’s government should now be punished for making sweeping statements,” said Vawda.
