The body of a man who, a day earlier, had tried to stop “Arab tourists” from hunting Houbara bustard was found near Karachi's Memon Goth on Wednesday. Dawn reported he was tortured to death.

According to a Samaa report, the Karachi police issued a statement stating the two suspects tortured the man near Jam House in Memon Goth. The body has been shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for the autopsy.

Earlier this week, a video went viral on social media in which a man filmed a vehicle with Dubai number plate parked in the middle of an unpaved road, blocking the route. The creators of the video identified being in "his area" and the vehicle owner was not telling him why he had parked there or why he was threatening him of legal proceedings. Then a man stepped out of the vehicle and tried to snatch his mobile phone.

Later, the man recorded another video of himself talking about the incident. He said he was getting threats on the phone and he was being asked to delete the video or he would be responsible for consequences.

So far the police claim it has arrested two men and registered a case under section 302, 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s brother Afzal Ahmed Jokhio.

Sindh Assembly MPA Jam Owais and others are named in the FIR, a copy of which was tweeted by Dawn journalist Mubashir Zaidi.

The family claimed they were receiving offers from the accused to settle the matter. The report also quotes the family as saying the accused also tried to bury the body after killing him.

As per the FIR, after the incident of recording the video of foreign nationals, the accused Owais called the victim, Nazimuudin Sajawal, at his guest house. The MPA along with Niaz Salar, Ahmed Shoroo, Haider Ali and Meher Ali tortured Sajawal.

After the body was found, the family and neighbors staged the protest outside Memon Goth police station and demanded an arrest of the foreign nationals.
