The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the clearing of a green belt in Karachi's PECHS block 6 as well as the demolition of all houses and a grid station of the K-Electric, according to an Aaj News report.

A three-member bench of Justice Aijaz ul Ahsan and Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard the case in SC Karachi registry.

The residents of Karachi had filed a case against K-Electric for the establishment of a grid station on a welfare plot.

In its remarks, the apex court noted the K-Electric was doing private business and it should acquire space in some other area.

During the hearing of the case, Justice Ahsan remarked the houses of the complainants were also situated on the green belt. The petitioners' lawyer Advocate Shuja un Nabi responded that their case was not related to the green belt but the plea was the society had allotted a welfare plot to K-Electric.

In its ruling the court also ordered restoration of park on the welfare plot situated in PECHS block 6. The court issued notices to K-Electric, the residents and PECHS society and adjourned the hearing of the case.

In the hearing of another case related to the land of the Civil Aviation Authority in the Karachi registry, the apex court ordered closure of marriage halls on the Airport lands across the country.

Justice Ahmed ordered Federal Investigation Agency DG to appear before the court in the next hearing and brief the court and submit findings on the allotment of 290 acre land near the airport. The court also sought survey report from a senior member of the Federal Board of Revenue.

The court in its ruling barred the CAA from commercial activities and remarked operating marriage halls didn't fall under the ambit of the regulatory body. On its lands the CAA should work related to the stuff which fell under its jurisdiction, the court remarked.

Justice Amin inquired whether the civil aviation across the world operate marriage halls. He remarked the regulator should open night clubs too.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case.
