Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin denied rumors on Sunday that talks with the International Monetary Fund have failed.

Tarin was responding to questions in a talk show on Geo Sunday night when he said the country's economic situation will improve.

"Give it a little time," he said.

The finance ministry also refuted speculation that the talks had failed in a press statement they released on Sunday.

"There is no truth in the news of the failure of talks with the IMF. The talks will resume on Monday uninterrupted from where they were on Friday," a spokesman said in a statement on Sunday.

Tarin has been in the US for talks with the IMF.

On Friday, Tarin told a media briefing at the Pakistan embassy in DC that he and the Governor of State Bank would attend another round of IMF talks virtually from New York while the finance secretary would attend in-person.

Sunday's press statement from the finance division said the talks were moving in a positive direction and they had exchanged data sets.

The finance division said they had not set a time frame for the conclusion of talks.

The IMF, meanwhile, said it was holding open and constructive discussions with Pakistan on the 6th review of its financial package and stood ready to support the country in achieving its objectives of debt sustainability.
