Thousands protest in Gwadar against shortage of drinking water, illegal trawling

Thousands of people staged a protest in Gwadar on Thursday against non-availability of basic necessities, shortage of drinking water, power outages and illegal trawling.

General sec­retary of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Balochistan chapter Maulana Hidayatur Rehman Baloch led the procession in Gwadar which turned into a large public meeting at Shuhada Jewani Chowk, according to a report of Dawn.

Addressing the demonstrators, the JI leader warned the government officials to end illegal trawling in the Balochistan's port city within one month.

A lot of social media users shared videos of the protest on Twitter.

One of the user said this was one of the biggest demonstrations in Gwadar in the recent days.

Another user tweeted: "You have never seen this Gwadar."

Talking about the development projects in Gwadar, a user said mega projects couldn't succeed without ensuring basic needs of people.

It is pertinent to mention here that major development projects under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor were in progress in Gwadar and locals were given assurances that these schemes would bring progress and prosperity in the less-developed province of the country.
