LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and leader of the opposition in National Assembly (NA) Shehbaz Sharif lashed out at the government ministers and said that they have no proper argument regarding electronic voting machine.

Shahbaz Sharif condemned the government's threats to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the Senate Parliamentary Affairs Committee meeting and said that the government had resorted to threatening the election commission after it rejected the idea of electronic voting machine.

Shahbaz said that it has been proved that the government does not have any answer to the logical, comprehensive, solid and technical reservations raised on the electronic voting machine.

He further said that earlier the legislation was bulldozed in the parliament and today the representatives of the Election Commission had to walk out over the attitude of the government.

He wondered how a government that does not demonstrate seriousness during a consultative meeting, be expected to take concrete decisions on electoral and administrative reforms.

He said that instead of responding to the objections of the members of the committee and the Election Commission on the electronic voting machine (EVM) the government started threatening the institution.

Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif further said that the PML-N had convened more than 100 consultative meetings on electoral reforms when it was in power but the government couldn't handle one.

Meanwhile PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz while reacting to the statement said that government representatives threatened the national institutions whereas we criticized the hidden negative elements.

"The government is threatening to set the institution on fire and there is no one to ask them," Maryam wrote on Twitter.
