The cricketing website Cricbuzz on Thursday published a report saying former cricketer Ramiz Raja will be appointed the new chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board.

The report claims the decision had received Prime Minister Imran Khan's "go ahead."

Raja will replace Ehsan Mani, who Geo reported yesterday, was likely to continue the post for another term.

But according to ESPNcricinfo Mani "refused to accept the offer for a short-term extension at the end of his term, which ended on Wednesday, and as such has brought his three-year tenure to a close."

Both Ramiz and Mani met the Prime Minister on Monday according to Cricbuzz.

The website quoted Raja after the meeting as saying: 'I have given him (Imran Khan) my plans. He will make a call."

It appears the decision has been made with Pakistani media outlets publishing the news that Raja will be taking charge at the helm of PCB.

The PCB’s board of governor will elect the chairman.

Raja played for Pakistan in 57 Tests and 198 ODIs, scoring 2833 and 5841 runs, respectively, and was a key member of the side in the 80s and early 90s, including the World Cups of 1987 and 1992.

Twitter was abuzz with the news and had mixed reactions.
