Pakistan is hopeful its name will be removed from the UK's red list when they announce new travel restrictions.

The British government is set to announce its new travel review of dozens of countries and Pakistan feels optimistic it will be downgraded to the amber list.

Turkey also hopes to have its name removed from the red list, its spokesperson from the embassy in London told Sky News.

The travel rules will next be reviewed on Thursday, August 26.

According to a story by Murtaza Shah, Geo's London correspondent, "Pakistani sources familiar with Pakistan’s lobbying with the British government have told Geo News that the chances of Pakistan coming out of the Red List are 50/50."

Pakistan's top envoy to the UK Moazzam Ahmad Khan on August 11 said he was hopeful Pakistan would be removed from the red list.

Travelers to the UK from red list countries have to quarantine for 10 days in approved hotels and book two Covid tests which they have to take on day 2 and day 8.

Pakistan remains on the red list along with other South Asian nations Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal; Afghanistan is also on the list. India was removed from the red list earlier this month. This caused uproar in Pakistan and some UK lawmakers called the decision one based on politics not data. Prime Minister Imran Khan spoke to UK PM Boris Johnson on this issue as well.
