Could Pakistan receive its first medal at the Tokyo Olympics since 1992 when javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem faces finals at the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday?

Pakistanis took to Twitter on Thursday to send good wishes to the young athlete who earned a place in the final with yesterday's 85.16 throw, a performance that got his coach out of his seat applauding.

The 24-year-old became Pakistan’s first track and field athlete to directly qualify for the Olympic Games when he made a throw of 86.29m in the South Asian Games at Katmandu, according to Geo News.

He currently ranks 23 in the world and is considered one of the finest in the subcontinent.

He's the only athlete from Pakistan who is still in the running for an Olympic medal. This year 10 competitors representing Pakistan qualified in 6 sports at the Olympics. Since it began participating in the Olympics in 1956 Pakistan has received 10 medals in total -- 3 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze.

Pakistanis are eagerly awaiting his performance and hope he will bring a long cherished medal for his country.
