Pakistan's active Covid cases climbs close to 50,000
NCOC data on Monday revealed that 2452 people of 49503 who tested positive for coronavirus. And 30 people died from it in the last 24 hours; of this figure 21 died on ventilators.
The positivity rate is slightly down to 4.95% but figures about the Delta variant are a major cause of concern, especially for the Sindh administration which is considering new measures to help contain the spread of the variant.
These newly released figures bring the number of active Covid cases to 48,850.
The number of deaths from coronavirus in the country has reached 22,811 and the total number of cases has reached 991,727.
The breakdown of active cases province wise is as follows: Sindh at 19,655, in Punjab 17,178, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 7,168, in Islamabad Capital Territory 1,916, in Balochistan 1,962, in Gilgit-Baltistan 612 and 1,012 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Sindh's new measures
Sindh announced on Sunday that it would only allow vaccinated people to take buses, enter cattle markets and outdoor weddings as well as book hotel rooms.
They also announced a smart lockdown in Korangi in a bid to contain the virus.
