  • In the past 24 hours, 62 new coronavirus cases were detected in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

  • Yesterday's tally of new infections proved to be the lowest in over two weeks.

Of late, the capital, like most regions of the country, has seen the number of new Covid-19 cases shrink significantly. This is evident in the declining daily positivity rate of the region. According to Islamabad's health authorities, in the past 24 hours, 3,220 people were sampled for the coronavirus infection out of which 62 tested positive, meaning a positivity rate of 1.9% was reported.

This rate has come down significantly in the past couple of weeks as the authorities have been successful in tackling the spread of the deadly flu bug in the region.

The declining number of daily cases is a testament to the efforts of the frontline health workers and local authorities.

While sharing the statistics with the public via his Twitter handle, ICT's District Health Officer (DHO) Zaeem Zia has asked the public to not get carried away by seeing the number of daily cases fall and keep following the SOPs put in place by the government as the chances of a surge in infections are still there.

ICT's latest COVID-19 figures as provided by the National Command and Operations Center(NCOC)- the nerve center to synergize and articulate unified national effort against COVID-19- are as follows:

Confirmed Cases: 81,257

New Cases (Last 24h): 62

Deaths: 762

New Deaths (Last 24h): 2
