COVID-19: Belgium becomes the 28th country to report over 1 million cases

Out of these 28 nations adversely affected by SARS-CoV2, 16 have at least 2 million-plus cases.

It's the summer of 2021 but the world is still dominated by the deadly viral infection named COVID-19. There is hardly any country left that hasn't reported any novel coronavirus infection yet. The devastation caused by the flu bug in every corner of the world is unprecedented.

As time has passed by, the pneumonia-like illness-causing coronavirus has mutated giving rise to multiple strains. These days most countries are going through the second and third waves of Covid as the global tally of daily cases reaches new peaks. Yesterday, Belgium became the 28th country to report over 1 million cases.

  • Out of these 28 nations adversely affected by SARS-CoV2, 16 have at least 2 million-plus cases.

  • The cases reported in three countries- United States, India, and Brazil- make up almost 50% of the global cases' tally.

  • With 854,240 total cases, Pakistan is the 29th most adversely affected country in terms of the number of infections reported and most likely the next to cross the grim milestone of 1m cases.

Multiple countries are currently fighting tooth and nail with the novel virus especially the situation in India is extremely critical as hundreds of thousands of people gasp for oxygen amid a national shortage of oxygen cylinders and Covid drugs. Countries from almost every continent are finding it hard to contain the new surges of the viral disease.
