This pandemic has changed our way of life drastically. Billions of people have adapted to a new normal. Although the pandemic fatigue has started overwhelming many, sanitizing habits have more or less persisted. In the beginning, most people went overboard with sanitizing not only hands but also doorknobs, cell phones, and even food items, etc.

With time, studies have shown that chances of novel coronavirus spread via surfaces are minimal. Though some health experts still believe that there is a considerable possibility that the flu bug can be transmitted via different surfaces, most scientists believe that the chances are slim.

Faheem Younus MD who is currently serving as the Chief of Infectious Diseases at the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health reckons that it's unlikely to contract COVID-19 from different surfaces. Answering a frequently asked question that whether the virus can be transmitted via mobile surfaces and should we keep sanitizing our cellphones daily?, he gave his verdict in these words:

Use a household disinfecting wipe [to disinfect mobile phones]. Clean phone/case. Don’t use liquids, sprays, etc. I haven’t cleaned my phone in 6 months. We’re both doing ok.

The Pakistani-American doctor who has found quite a fame in Twitter world in the last few months also warned the public that virus transmission via human interaction is way more likely. He wrote:

Caution: COVID will likely come to you through a TRUSTED human instead of a phone/surface.
