The interior ministry has forwarded a summary to Prime Minister Imran Khan seeking a ban on Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) under the anti-terrorism law, reported Geo News on Thursday.

If the premier approves of the summary, it will be then shared with the members of the cabinet for their consideration and authorization. As per the details, a notification is likely to be issued today (Thursday) to impose a ban on the religiopolitical party.

The interior Minister Sheik Rasheed, on Wednesday, had announced to impose a ban after three people including two police officers lost their lives in violent protests following the arrest of the group's leader.

The Interior Minister, while speaking to the media in Islamabad, had said the government has decided to ban TLP and added, the ban will be placed under Section 11-B of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, on the recommendation of the Punjab government, and added that a summary for the ban has been moved to the federal cabinet.

The minister had maintained that at least two police officers embraced martyrdom while 340 others were injured during the recent protests by TLP while the party’s workers also tried to take a number of policemen hostage to force the government to accept their demands.

Sheikh Rasheed had made it clear that no case registered against TLP men regarding violence during protests will be taken back and also urged members of the party’s social media wing to surrender themselves before law enforcement agencies.
