PDM nominates Gillani as joint candidate for Senate chairman
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has nominated former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani as its joint candidate for the upcoming election for Senate chairman.
The decision by the Opposition alliance was taken during a meeting chaired by PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad today.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting, PDM President Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that a meeting on the strategy for setting up the long march would be held on March 15.
Fazlur Rehman said that senate election was also discussed in detail in PDM meeting.
He said that all opposition parties unanimously supported Gilani as their candidate for Senate chairman. PML-N and Awami National Party also supported his candidature from the platform of the Pakistan Democratic Movement.
He said that meeting of the Opposition party heads also discussed a future strategy to oust the PTI-led government.
Speaking during the PDM meeting, Bilawal Bhutto said that they were given the challenge to ensure an upper hand in Senate and they had successfully achieved it.
Earlier, sources had reported that besides reviewing the process of the vote of confidence sought and secured by Prime Minister Imran Khan, the meeting will also discuss a strategy for the Opposition's planned long march and the election of the Senate chairman.
