Islamabad: Today, the Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on National Health Services Dr. Faisal Sultan said that the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) has been upgraded to augment the quality of medical education in the country.

SAPM was addressing a ceremony in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Islamabad earlier in the day. He said the government is doing its best to provide better healthcare services to the public across the country and enhancing the quality of medical education. So upgrading the PMC was a big step in the right direction.

It must be noted that Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) is the successor to Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). The latter was dissolved by the Imran administration in 2019 but it took a long and arduous judiciary battle before the government was successful in upgrading the PMDC to PMC. Significant changes were made in several policies of the institution.

Pakistan's de facto health minister also underlined the need for the promotion of medical research to take forward the country. Urging the healthcare providers to work hard and fulfill their duties, Sultan said that medicine is a sacred profession and those associated with it must serve the ailing humanity with devotion and respect.
