Lawmakers from opposition parties including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), on Wednesday, have handed over their resignations from the assemblies to their party leaderships.

The move came after the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leader and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman asked all Opposition parliamentarians to submit their resignations to their party leaders by December 31, as the movement gears up for the second phase of anti-government protests.

According to details, PML-N spokesperson in Punjab Uzma Bukhari, her husband Sami Ullah Khan, members Punjab Assembly Bilal Farooq Tarar and Akhtar Mayo have submitted their resignations to the party leadership.

From PPP, MPA Raheela Khadim Hussain, Malik Sohaib, and Ali Haider Gillani, the son of ex-Prime Minister (PM) Yousaf Raza Gillani have presented their resignations. MNA Agha Rafiullah is also amongst those who have submitted their resignation to party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The anti-government opposition alliance had decided to submit resignations from assemblies during a meeting held on December 8. After the meeting, the PDM chief announced that "by December 31, opposition lawmakers from provincial and national assemblies will hand in their resignations to their respective party heads."
