The Punjab government has decided to follow the footsteps of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in providing universal health coverage to all citizens of the province.

This was announced by Chief Minister Punjab Usman Khan Buzdar via social media website Twitter earlier today. He tweeted the good news, writing:

According to the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, we have decided to provide health insurance of Rs. 720,000 to every family in Punjab under the health facility program. In sha Allah "Universal Health Coverage" will start in all districts of Punjab by the end of 2021. It will start in 2 districts first next month.

The provincial government vows to deliver health insurance to all districts in a stepwise manner. Starting from two districts- names of which are not made public yet- in the next month. If the government succeeds in this initiative, it will be a game-changer for the healthcare system of the province.

Earlier this year, the PTI-led KP government successfully launched a similar endeavor. PM Imran Khan had urged the Punjab government to emulate this great initiative as soon as possible.
