Interior Minister appear before IHC for Faizabad Dharna case hearing

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Monday appeared before the Islamabad High Court (IHC)Â as the hearing into the Faizabad protest proceeded, Aaj News reported.Â

According to reports, the minister was not presented in the court as the hearing commenced to which IHC judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui expressed his displeasure.

Ahsan Iqbal was ordered to appear before the court in 15 minutesÂ before the hearing was adjourned for a break.

In accordance with the court's order the Interior minister appeared before the court for hearing.

IHC has also summoned Director General Intelligence Bureau Aftab Sultan and secretary commander of the Inter-Services Intelligence.

JusticeÂ SiddiquiÂ asked the interior minister to submit a detailed report of the operation conducted on Saturday and why it turned into a fiasco.

Chief Commissioner Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutta read out the agreement between the government and the protesters to Justice Shaukat to which the judge the remarked that, we asked you to clear Faizabad interchange of protesters not to negotiate a deal with them.

Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, who also appeared before the court, said the Government has acted in the best interest of the country.

He said military leadership played its role in hammering out an agreement.

On November 24, the IHCÂ issued aÂ contempt notice to Iqbal for not taking any steps to end the Faizabad sit-in that had entered its third week.
