Abdul Sattar Edhi's honors and awards

WEB DESK: Known as the most noble man in the history, philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi passes away in Karachi on July 8th 2016. Edhi runs the biggest organization known as Edhi foundation operating free nursing homes, orphanages, clinics, women’s shelters, and rehab centers for drug addicts and mentally ill individuals.

Since 1997, organization has held the Guinness record for world largest volunteer ambulance organization. Apart from this, Edhi was also honored with various with various national and international awards. Here are few of them:

  • Lenin Peace Prize (1988)
  • Paul Harris Fellow from Rotatory International Foundation, (1993)
  • Peace Prize from (USSR former) for services in the Armenian earthquake disaster, (1998)

  • Hamdan Award for volunteers in Humanitarian Medical Services (2000) UAE
  • International Balzan Prize (2000) for Humanity, Peace and Brotherhood, Italy

  • Peace Award (Mumbai), 2004
  • Peace Award (Hyderabad Deccan), 2005
  • Wolf of Bhogio Peace Award (Italy), 2005
  • Gandhi Peace Award (Delhi),2007

  • Honorary Doctorate degree from the Institute of Business Administration Karachi (2006).
