Angry, aggrieved parents of APS students raise anti Imran slogans

PESHAWAR: The parents and relatives of victims of Army Public School (APS) attack here Wednesday staged protest demonstration outside of the school against the visit of Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf Chief Imran Khan along with his wife Reham Khan.

The parents chanted slogans of 'Go Imran Go and "politics on blood of innocent children unacceptable" on arrival of Imran Khan. The protesters, carrying posters and banners tried to stop his vehicle from entering APS premises and complained that PTI government did not shown any concern regarding the school attack.

The demonstrators also lamented that it took Khan about a month to come to Peshawar and address students after the deadly school massacre. They said the province had given mandate to PTI for positive change but so far the party has done nothing.

The parents said about 144 people including 134 innocent students were brutally massacred by the militants in the attack on December 16 last in the provincial capital where Imran Khan's party was ruling but nothing has been done for their financial assistance.

If Imran was grieved over the killing of innocent students and teachers, he should have come to APS for boosting morale of students and share the grief with the bereaved families, the protestors observed.

The protestors warned to come on the roads against PTI government after the Chehlum of the martyred children if their reservations were not addressed and foolproof security is not ensured for schools in KPK.

One of the parents said, visit of Imran Khan along with his bride was nothing but a political gimmick, adding Imran Khan should have delayed his marriage till the Chelum of the slain students of APS.

Later, PTI chief Imran Khan left the school from the back gate to avoid anger of protesting parents and kin of victims. The protesters scuffled with police and continued protest till Imran Khan's presence. Extra contingents of police were also summoned to control the enraged protesters.

Meanwhile, talking to students of APS Imran Khan lauded the courage of parents and school children for rejoining the School for studies.

He said sacrifices of martyred children would not go in vain. "I am pleased to see children have restarted their studies in APS," he remarked.
