India quenches Surjeet's claim; says he was not a spy
NEW DELHI: India on Friday quashed Surjeet's claim stating that he was not sent to spy in Pakistan.
"We do not accept that Singh was a spy; this is totally false," stated Indian Home Secretary RK Singh.
The Indian Home Secreatary, while addressing a news conference denied the spying claims of Surjeet and added that neither India is involved in spying nor does it send any spy.
The statement from the Indian Home Secretary came after Surjeet Singh acutely agreed that he was a Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) member and was sent over to Pakistan for spying.
Surjeet Singh, upon his release from Pakistani prison, had agreed to spy within Pakistan until he was arrested in 1980 by the Pakistani authorities.
