Why don’t “they†leave then
Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani visited United Kingdom a week ago and the Pakistani authorities claimed the tour to be a successful one. The claim was made probably because the UK government showed a positive content in enhancing trade up to £2.5 billion and offering £1.4 billion for education. Besides these monetary incentives, the UK Prime Minister also made a statement stating that the “enemies of Pakistan were to be considered as UK’s enemiesâ€.
The monetary incentive may only be considered to be the decisive factor in concluding the tour as successful, considering the nature of our politicians. The tour may have been successful as per the statements of the government representatives but the interview which Gilani gave to CNN was undoubtedly a letdown.
The convicted Prime Minister stated that he would only leave his office if disqualified and notified by the speaker of the National Assembly. If the Prime Minister is only concerned with the Speaker, then why make hoax remarks about respecting the judiciary? These Pakistani politicians have the natural ability to whirl a person around without giving a proper response and this was what Gilani displayed in his entire interview.
The entire interview saw Becky Anderson, the interviewer, ask questions in such a blunt way that it seemed as if she was questioning a local citizen of Pakistan rather than any senior diplomat of a country.  The interviewer was also daring enough to state that Pakistan was a dysfunctional society. Are we 180 million people of Pakistan, a dysfunctional society? May be we are, may be we are a dysfunctional society where we have such leaders who are convicted by the judiciary and our leaders are bold enough to state that, “my (Gilani) assessment and according to most of the parliamentarians think that what ever I have done is according to the constitution.â€
The main issue that needs to be highlighted in the entire interview was Yousuf Gilani’s answer to a question where the interviewer told Gilani that in accordance with a poll, almost one-third of the Pakistani population wanted to leave the country because they did not have enough confidence in the leadership of the country.  Gilani responded to this by stating, “And why don’t they leave then, who is stopping them".

With respect to leaving the country, the poll was unable to reveal the fact that one-third of the Pakistani population, desiring to leave the country, are unable to afford the commuting charges, thanks to the current leadership of the country. People considering the leaving option cannot get a proper visa to travel abroad because of the valiant performance of the government in gaining a prestigious image for the country. The literacy rate within the region has been kept so low by the government that the entire population is unaware as to what they are facing.
Is this the answer that you expect from a leader of a nation? Well I guess whether the people leave or not, the concerned leader and almost his entire cabinet would definitely leave the country once they do not get elected for another term. They would leave this country, with their huge piggy-bags loaded with hefty fortune, making way for another similar leader whose bank accounts would be showing critical credit balance.
