The most anticipated television show of the year was launched on Sunday 6 May, 2012. "Satyamev Jayate", the Aamir Khan starring television show, received enthusiastic response from the audience.
The content of the show was kept as a secret but the curtains were raised when the first episode was launched on Sunday 11 am (IST).
"Satyamev Jayate", is a show that addresses the social issues prevailing within India. The show is not like the other "Bollywood Masala" shows but it is rather a show that highlights the real life problems faced by a normal individual.
Although the show's focus is predominantly towards Indian issues and problems; it can be argued that those problems are also a part of the Pakistani culture since tradition between the two countries match a bit.
The show's first episode, launched on Sunday, highlighted the issue of female foeticide. Foeticide is an act that causes the death of a fetus. This in laymen terminology means that a child, capable of being born alive, is killed.
The tragedy that still prevails within many developing countries is that a girl is killed within the womb of her mother, once it is realized that a boy would not be given birth.
"Satyamev Jayate", with its first episode on female foeticide, struck the emotional chords of many people worldwide. The show received a humongous response with Aamir Khan urging an end to the filthy crime.
"I'm looking at reactions on twitter, our website crashed because it got so many hits, but I think it's working now," Aamir tweeted.
Aamir Khan's show received positive response from not only the local public, it was also critically acclaimed by many different people from the industry.
Preity Zinta tweeted, "Watching Aamir Khan on Satyamev Jayate discussing female foeticide! I love this effort from him and thank him as a woman!"
Aamir Khan also stated that he himself had tears in his eyes when he watched the show with his wife and son. He further vowed that this was just the beginning and that he would bring forward many other social malaise that continue to haunt India.
The show would be based on 16 episodes and would mark the first ever effort from a notable star to address such social issues.
