South Africa win U19 cricket tournament

Quinton De Kock played a superb innings of 146 from 148 balls to lead South Africa to an emphatic 134-run victory over Pakistan in the final of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Under-19 Triangular Series between South Africa, Pakistan and Zimbabwe at Paarl on Sunday.

De Kock returned from a series of poor performances with the bat to lead the run scoring from the front when they were put in to bat by Pakistan, who won the toss on a gloomy morning.

The South African captain shared a 56-run partnership with Gihahn Cloete (24 from 26 balls), a 52-run partnership with Theunis de Bruyn (22 from 29 balls) and a 113-run partnership with Diego Rosier (41 from 57 balls), the partnership that really took the match away from the visitors.

South Africa ended their innings with a daunting 275/9.

Pakistan’s reply was just not good enough. They were bowled out for 141 runs with the ever reliable Rabian Engelbrecht taking the first wicket of Babar Azam (2) in the third over.

The bowlers produced a good performance, working as a strong unit with everyone taking two wickets with the exception of Engelbrecht and Prenelan Subrayen who took 3/38 including the dangerous Sami Aslam who fell for 35 in 40 balls.

Aslam was awarded the man of the series trophy in acknowledgment of his stellar work with the bat throughout the series.
