The ruling coalition and opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf talks would take place on Monday (tomorrow) during the in-camera meeting in the National Assembly’s room as both sides sit together to discuss issues for the first time since the February 8 elections.

According to a notification, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq would “preside over an in-camera meeting scheduled for 11:30am in committee room number 5 of the Parliament House.”

Members of the government and opposition committees have been informed about the meeting through notices. The discussions aim to address various issues between the two sides, highlighting the dialogue in the political landscape.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed a negotiation committee comprising members of the government following the recommendation by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

“The formation of a negotiation committee was made at the request of PTI Chairman Gohar who expressed a desire for talks,” Sadiq said in a statement.

The NA speaker emphasised that negotiations between the government and opposition are “essential” for the broader interests of the country. “National unity is crucial to address the challenges facing the nation.”

While welcoming Gohar’s call for discussions to resolve political issues, the NA speaker noted that understanding and dialogue were the only ways to find solutions to problems. He asserted that “effective and lasting solutions” in politics can only be achieved through fruitful negotiations.

On Dec 5, jailed former prime minister Imran Khan warned the government of a civil disobedience movement from December 14 if his demands about the release of political prisoners facing trial and the formation of a judicial commission to probe the events of May 9, 2023, and November 26 were not fulfilled.

The government’s committee include Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the PM’s political aide Rana Sanaullah, and Senator Irfan Siddiqui, according to the statement issued by the Prime Minister House.

It also includes PPP’s Raja Parvez Ashraf and Naveed Qamar, MQM-P leader Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Federal Minister for Privatisation Aleem Khan, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Chaudhry Salik Hussain and Sardar Khalid Magsi, it added.

Moreover, the committee formed by PTI includes Omar Ayub Khan, Ali Amin Gandapur, Salman Akram Raja, Asad Qaiser, Hamid Raza, Hamid Khan, and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas.
