Mirani dam vital to uplift socio-economic condition: WAPDA

Mirani Dam is a vital project to uplift the socio-economic condition of backward areas as it could boost agriculture, fisheries & livestock and provide water for domestic use.

Secretary WAPDA Imtiaz Tajwar said this while briefing the Senator Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch about the project. He said gross storage capacity of Mirani Dam is more than 300,000 acre feet of water.

WAPDA sources told APP, the dam has a command area of 33,200 acres and it could be increased manifold if the latest irrigation techniques such as drip and sprinkler are adopted.

WAPDA completed Mirani Dam Project in 2007 but the benefits from the project could not be fully achieved as the concern authorities has not developed the command area of the dam, but still today, only 8,000 acres of land has so far been developed.
