Governor Punjab Salman Taseer laid to rest
The slain Governor of Punjab Salman Taseer was laid to rest at local graveyard in Cavalry Ground area of Lahore on Wednesday. The funeral prayers of Salman Taseer were offered at the Governor's House in Lahore.
President PPP Ulema Wing Mualana Muhammad Afzal Chishti led the janaza of Punjab Governor Salman Taseer.
The funeral prayers of Salman Taseer were attended by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Federal Minister of Law Babar Awan, Defense Minister Ahmad Mukhtar, Babar Ghouri and several party leaders, workers and sympathisers.
"Security is on high alert in Lahore and in the entire Punjab. We have sufficient reserve force deployed as well," Lahore commissioner Khusro Pervez said.
Authorities have installed walk-through metal detectors at the house as an added security measure for the funeral, while police patrol the streets to maintain peace.
Thousands of police were guarding Taseer's residence and other key sites.
Governor Punjab Salman Taseer was died in an assassination attempt in Islamabad on Tuesday.
He was shot dead by his own guard.
The attacker was an officer of elite force. The governor was severely injured in the attack. He was taken to hospital where he died from his injuries.
