Aamir Khan successfully defends his WBA title
Pakistani origin British Boxer Aamir Khan has successfully defended his WBA light welterweight title with a hard-fought unanimous decision over Marcos Maidana of Argentina in Las Vegas on Sunday.
Aamir Khan said that he was very happy for the title. "I was hard hit by Maidana but I stood until last moment of the fight", said Khan.
The judges scored the bout 114-111, 114-111 and 113-112 in favour of Aamir Khan.
Khan, 24-1 (17 KOs) dropped Maidana at the end of the first round with a left hand to the body. But the hard-hitting challenger recovered and pressed forward for much of the fight.
Maidana (29-2,27 KOs) landed a huge right hand that hurt Khan badly in the 10th round, and a series of punches had the champion in trouble but Khan stayed on his feet and survived the round.
