'National Treasure' tops North American box office
Nicolas Cage received a box-office birthday present on Monday as action film 'National Treasure: Book of Secrets' topped North American rankings for the third straight week, final figures showed.
Cage, who turned 44 on Monday, saw the film scoop up another 20 million dollars at the US and Canadian box office and stay on course to become the actor's highest-grossing film, according to Exhibitor Relations.
The film, which sees Cage reprise his role as US "treasure protector" Benjamin Franklin Gates, has earned 170.9 million dollars after three weeks.
In second place was acclaimed independent film "Juno," a comedy about a pregnant teenager looking for parents to adopt her baby, which took 15.9 million dollars.
Third was blockbuster "I Am Legend," in which Will Smith plays a scientist who is among the last survivors of a virus that wipes out mankind.
The film took 15.7 million, boosting its overall earnings to 228 million dollars in four weeks.
Fourth was Christmas-themed animated film "Alvin and the Chipmunks," which netted 15.5 million dollars.
In fifth spot was the only new entry, "One Missed Call," the US remake of 2004 Japanese horror movie "Chakushin Ari," which took 12.5 million.
Tom Hanks' and Julia Roberts' comedy-drama "Charlie Wilson's War" was sixth with 8.1 million, ahead of the Hilary Swank romantic comedy "P.S. I Love You" with 7.8 million.
"The Water Horse," a family film about a boy who discovers a dinosaur egg that hatches into the Loch Ness Monster, was eighth with 6.2 million dollars.
Gruesome musical "Sweeney Todd," starring Johnny Depp as the cut-throat demon barber of Fleet Street took 5.5 million while romantic drama "Atonement" took five million.
