Pakistan will be without batter Shan Masood when they face the West Indies in the second and final Test of the series, which begins on Sunday at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

Masood has been ruled out after sustaining an injury to the index finger of his left hand during the first Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, where he was struck by a delivery from West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales in Pakistan’s first innings.

After undergoing scans and a clinical assessment, the left-hander is receiving treatment under the supervision of the Pakistan team’s medical staff.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said Masood’s availability for the opening Test against England, which begins on August 19 at Headingley in Leeds, will depend on his recovery and clinical progress.

Shan Masood, who scored a century in the first Test, will remain with the squad during his rehabilitation.

The injury comes as Pakistan look to bounce back from a 90-run defeat in the series opener, where batting failures proved decisive.

Masood’s absence leaves Pakistan with several options to bolster their batting line-up.

Abdullah Shafique and Saud Shakeel, who were added to the squad before the first Test after Abdullah Fazal was ruled out with a back injury, are among the leading candidates to replace him.

Uncapped right-hander Awais Zafar is also in contention for a Test debut.
