Security forces foiled an attack by India-backed Fitna al-Khawarij militants on a check post in South Waziristan, killing four attackers, including a suicide bomber, in an operation that left no casualties among security personnel, the military’s media wing said on Saturday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the militants attempted to breach the security of the check post, but were repelled due to the alertness and swift response of security forces.

The military said an explosives-laden vehicle driven by a suicide bomber was destroyed outside the perimeter of the check post before it could reach its target.

The suicide bomber was killed in the explosion, while the blast caused no damage to the check post, the ISPR said.

Security personnel later surrounded three other militants who had taken refuge in a nearby compound.

All three were killed during a subsequent clearance operation, the statement added.

The ISPR said no security personnel were injured during the operation.

A search and sanitisation operation is underway in the area to eliminate any remaining militants.

The military said security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue counterterrorism operations under the Azm-i-Istehkam campaign, adding that operations against India-backed Fitna al-Khawarij would continue until militancy is eliminated.
