The Parachinar-Tal Hangu Road in Kurram District has been closed for all traffic for the past 68 days due to ongoing security concerns, leaving residents in distress and raising alarms about a potential shortage of essential supplies in Upper Kurram.

The closure has resulted in a severe lack of food, medicine, and fuel in Parachinar, with local hospitals reporting an increased risk of fatalities due to the unavailability of critical medical supplies.

Recent reports indicate that the medicines provided by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government were limited to treating skin diseases and malaria, while everyday medications have completely run out.

Tragically, three children have died in hospitals from pneumonia in the past three days.

Border authorities have also confirmed that the Pak-Afghan Kharlachi border has been closed for two months, compounding the difficulties faced by the local population. Local leaders estimate that approximately 400,000 residents in Upper Kurram are effectively trapped, with many facing expired tickets and visas.
