Opener Shahzaib Khan broke multiple records during the ACC U19 Asia Cup 2024 match against India.
In a thrilling encounter at Dubai Stadium, Pakistan defeated their longstanding rival India by 44 runs in the opening group stage match of the U19 Asia Cup on Saturday.
Pakistan delivered an impressive batting display, finishing with a score of 281/7 in 50 overs, largely thanks to Shahzaib Khan’s outstanding innings of 159 runs off 147 balls.
Born in Mansehra, Khan made history with his 159-run performance, which included five fours and ten sixes. This is the highest individual score by any batter against India at the Under-19 level, surpassing the previous record of 134 runs set by Sami Aslam in 2012 in Kuala Lumpur.
Shahzaib also achieved the highest score for a Pakistani batter in One-Day matches at the Under-19 level, breaking Shamyl Hussain’s record of 150 runs from 109 balls against Sri Lanka in Karachi in 2023.
The ten sixes hit by Shahzaib are the most ever recorded by a Pakistan player at the Under-19 level. He joins an elite group of batters who have scored memorable centuries against India U19, including Colin Ackermann’s 129 off 113 balls for South Africa in 2009 and Kadeer Ali’s 125 off 122 balls for England in 2002.
Chasing a challenging target of 282 runs set by Pakistan, the Indian team struggled throughout their innings and was bowled out for 239 runs in just 47 overs, falling short by 44 runs.
