Chief Justice Isa begins chamber work as retirement draws closer

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa has moved to his chambers to write judgments, sources confirmed.

Senior Puisne Judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah’s bench has consequently relocated to courtroom number one.

The shift occurred during a hearing of the G-10 twin apartment allotment case. Petitioner Khushdil Khan expressed a wish for Justice Shah’s bench to remain in courtroom number one, prompting Justice Shah to remark, “Whatever Allah wills, will happen.”

The court adjourned the hearing for two weeks, ordering the submission of relevant records from the Prime Development Housing Authority (PDHA).

Justice Shah presided over the hearing alongside Justice Ayesha Malik and Justice Aqeel Baloch Abbasi.

CJP Isa is set to retire on October 25. The parliament recently passed a constitutional amendment changing the mechanism for the appointment of the CJP.

As opposed to the earlier mechanism where the senior most judge automatically became CJP, a parliamentary committee will now select the next CJP from a panel of three seniormost judges.
