Here is how to qualify for Maryam Nawaz scholarships in Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has unveiled a plan to award 30,000 scholarships to talented students across the province as part of the Honhaar Scholarship Programme.

The initiative aims to support students in 68 different disciplines and is funded by a Rs130 billion budget.

As the registration deadline approaches, information desks have been established at various universities to assist applicants.

The scholarships will cover four to five years of education for students enrolled in 50 public sector universities across Punjab.

Eligibility will be based on academic performance, with 30% weight given to matriculation marks and 70% to intermediate marks.

To qualify, applicants must be residents of Punjab, under 22 years of age, and have a family income below Rs300,000. The programme also extends to MBBS and BDS students. Applications can be submitted online until October 18.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the scholarships would be awarded purely on merit, aimed at providing higher education opportunities for deserving students who lack financial resources.

In a statement on World Poverty Eradication Day, she also highlighted the importance of supporting underprivileged communities to build a stronger society.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Hold a domicile from any district in Punjab.

• Be no older than 22 years by the application deadline.

• Have a family monthly income of less than Rs 300,000 (affidavit required).

• Be enrolled in selected disciplines at designated universities or colleges for the fall2024 session.

• Newly enrolled MBBS and BDS students for 2024 are also eligible.

Academic performance is also a key factor, with minimum marks set as follows:

• Medical Colleges: Over 80%

• Top Universities: Over 80%

• Public Sector Universities: 75% for Science and 70% for Arts and Social Sciences

• HED Colleges: 65% for Science and 60% for Arts and Social Sciences.

Scholarship Coverage

The Honhaar Scholarship Program will cover 100% of tuition fees.

Application Process

Applicants can apply through the Honhaar Scholarship Portal at honhaarscholarship.punjabhec.gov.pk. The application process involves:

  1. Registering on the portal by providing your CNIC, institute name, and email address.

  2. Creating an account and remembering the password for future logins.

  3. Logging in to complete the application form, which requires personal details, educational background, and family information.

  4. Submitting the application, after which a confirmation email will be sent to the registered address.

Deadline

The application deadline has been extended to October 18, 2024.
