US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome discussed bilateral ties with PML-N Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz during a meeting at her Murree residence on Sunday, the party said.

“During the meeting, both discussed the significance of historic, longstanding bilateral ties between the two countries,” the PML-N posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The US envoy met her on Sunday, according to the N-league.

“They emphasized the importance of promoting mutual cooperation in diverse areas, including trade, economy, security, peace and regional stability.”

Nawaz expressed appreciation for Ambassador Blome’s efforts on behalf of the US during the Covid-19 pandemic as well as during last year’s devastating floods.

The US ambassadors in the past have met with the political leadership in Pakistan.

Last month, the foreign office said that political leaders meeting foreign envoys was a “routine practice”.

On August 24, Blome met with Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja.

The ambassador reaffirmed the US support for free and fair elections in accordance with Pakistan’s laws and constitution, a statement from the US embassy said.

“Choosing Pakistan’s future leaders is a decision for the Pakistani people to make, and the United States remains committed to working to enhance the US-Pakistan relationship with whomever the Pakistani people choose,” said Ambassador Blome during his meeting with Sikander Sultan Raja.
